Biography

Katie Stevenson has been an educator for the last 15 years and has spent the last three years as an elementary instructional coach in the South Redford School District. She previously taught at Fisher Elementary School in South Redford for eight years, Bay City Public Schools for two years, and Memphis City Schools for her first years as a teacher. During her time in the classroom, Katie was also an adjunct professor at Siena Heights University teaching science content courses for elementary teachers. Katie's love of teaching goes beyond the classroom. Her leadership among colleagues has been evident in her district and across the state, as seen through her position as Elementary Director with the Michigan Science Teachers Association, which she has held since 2020. Katie is currently working with AnLar, LLC to conduct a research study funded through the Institute of Education Services with science coaching in fifth grade classrooms. She is writing curriculum and coaching teachers on best practices to connect state science standards with the elements of spatial thinking. Katie is a member of the National Science Teaching Association, National Science Education Leadership Association, Michigan Science Education Leadership Association, and Michigan Science Teachers Association. She earned a B.A. in elementary education and an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction from Eastern Michigan University.
